Social movements and activists in Colombia, Guatemala and the Philipines have to endure constant state repression, and so does the general public. To support their struggle for justice, the platform "Stop the killings" organises a symbolic action on the 70th anniversary of the Universal Decleration of Human Rights. We want to put the spotlight on their struggle for human rights and show our solidarity with the social movements who put their lives on the line to defend them.
We gather Monday the 10th of December 2018 at 6pm at Brussels-Central station. The programme will include a dance and singing performance, and also a testimony of Eleanor de Guzman. She is the wife of Marklen Maojo Maga, trade union leader in the Philippines and one of the faces of this campaign. He's been unjustly arrested by the Philipino governement, on made up charges.
Stop The Killings is a human rights campaign by trade-unions ans NGO's. By providing information and organisaing actions, we want to bring attention to the repression of social movements in the Global South. Fundamental right, unfortunatly, remain unenforced and governements (in both active and passive ways) hinder the development of civil society.
