On November 8, 2014, it will be exactly one year after Typhoon Haiyan wrought havoc on the Philippines. For us at Third World Health Aid (TWHA) it is a time to demand justice for its victims and of all other weather-related disasters the world over. That is also why we joined other movements, NGOs and organisations in drafting this statement calling for climate justice.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) will have an impact on health through the social determinants of health or daily living conditions, access to healthcare and medication. This agreement has been drafted for companies based in industrialized countries and is entirely set up for their benefit. TWHA promotes politics giving priority to public health over commercial interests and will therefore participate in the 19 December rally #STOPTTIP.
The third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR) took place in Cape Town from September 30 to October 3, 2014. Almost 2000 participants from 125 countries, including several PHM (People's Health Movement) activists, animated the four-day world congress, exchanging and debating around the issue of people-centred health systems.
